Watching the Oscars last night, I couldn’t help but notice how many nominees and winners were not US-born.

Barkhad Abdi of Mogadishu, Somalia was working as a chauffeur when he was selected from 700 people who auditioned for the supporting role in Captain Phillips.
The talent of people from all over the world made all of the films we saw this past year richer, more beautiful, and more enjoyable for all of us. I am very proud to be in a country that celebrates achievement and artistic accomplishment from all over the world. This year, I remain hopeful that the U.S. immigration system will be made more easily able to attract and retain those who benefit us so much.
